Nishihonganji Temple, at the UNESCO World Heritage.
Have a walk inside the temple grounds and enjoy free buddhist service !
Located near naokonoza Omiya Gojo and Aburanokoji,
Nishihonganji Temple is listed as a UNESCO world heritage and open its gates everyday for buddhist services
and for the monks to provide guided tours of the temple grounds but also to provide free counselling service
for people who feel anxious or have troubles.
Naturally, the Jōdo-Shinshū (浄土真宗, « The True Essence of the Pure Land Teaching ») is close to the people therefore parking space is free.
Go take a look, even if you don’t speak japanese it can be a great experience !
- Morning and afternoon services
From 6AM or 4PM.
In the wonderful temple hall, let yourself be transported by the resonating voices of the monks
and you will feel your heart is being purified.
- Guided tour of the temple by a bouddhist monk There are four visits per day and they last for about 30 minutes.
- Everyone is welcome and can come as many times as he/she wants.
9:30AM～ 11:00AM～ 13:45PM～ 15:30PM～
Enjoy a guided tour of the temple by the buddhist monks. All you have to do is got the the temple’s tea house
before the beginning of a tour. Even though the tour is free, you will get an original card as a souvenir !
- Counselling Between 9AM and 4PM
Inside the tea house is also the information desk of the temple where priests and monks are there
to listen to people and give them advice.
About commemoration, funeral services or anything that might be of concern in people’s lives,
they great people with benevolence.
- Buddhist sermon
After the morning service of 6AM
14:00～ 19:00～
- On the 16thof every month : Shinran’s day
Commemorations, sermons, tours of parts of the temple normally inaccessible for the public,
experience of Kyoto culture and prayer tours are organized on top of the flea market held in front of the entrance !
